What’s the difference between freelancing and being self-employed? None, as far as I can see, except that if you are something art-farty-sounding like a designer, you will call yourself a freelancer – self-employment is for plumbers. Rollocks, say I. But if you have come from the world of corporate hierarchy, you will find the changes in lifestyle and work philosophy drastic, and even if you have been self-employed (or freelancing) for years, you can always do it better.     I’d have said “freelancing” involved working out of your own home or office as writers or designers do, but “self-employed” meant working on other people’s premises, which is why plumbers and electricians are self-employed.
